Terms of Use

Informational use only

oceansafety.info displays publicly available NOAA buoy readings and National Weather Service advisories for stretches of the Northern California coast. It is provided for informational purposes only.

It is not safety advice, not a forecast, and not a substitute for your own judgment, for posted signage, or for the instructions of lifeguards, rangers, or emergency personnel. No part of this site should be read as telling you that a beach is safe.

The readings shown come from third-party government sources and are displayed as received. They may be delayed, incomplete, wrong, or missing. Buoys fail. Feeds go down. Readings are taken miles offshore and conditions at the water can differ sharply from them.

This site is offered as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, reliability, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage of any kind arising out of the use of, or reliance on, information presented here or on any site linked from here.

You are responsible for your own decisions at the coast. The ocean is dangerous regardless of what any number on any screen says.

This site links to NOAA, the National Weather Service, and other agencies so that you can verify what is shown here against the source. Those sites are not controlled by this one, and their content and availability are their own.

Buoy readings, advisories, and hazard guidance originate with NOAA, the National Weather Service, the National Park Service, and California State Parks, and are works of the United States government or the State of California. Sources are cited on the pages where the information appears.

The design, arrangement, and written text of this site belong to its operator. You are welcome to link to it, share it, print it, and post the QR code at a beach entrance.

These terms may be updated. The current version always appears on this page with its effective date.

Effective date: August 13, 2026.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
